Since we are gearing up for Memorial Day weekend, I thought it appropriate to share this bit of an Americana gem I came across via House Beautiful.

This is a home where the designers/homeowners were afraid of pattern. My favorite has got to be the toile on toile in the last image.

And the fact that all the rooms look so cozy, almost make you want to overlook that this vacation home has no heating, air conditioning or a dishwasher.

Creator and designer Christina Weber started the Studiopatró  line  with a William Morris quote at heart: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

The tea towels are hand printed with eco friendly water-based inks and the aprons would even make me look like someone who knows what is going on in the kitchen.

After much deliberating, I’ve decided to go with the dresser as a changing table option. It turned out that our existing desk was just too big/deep and the amount of money it would have cost to get the right baskets for storage underneath…let’s just say the dresser was the way to go.

So I headed back to the Paterson Habitat ReStore. Much to my surprise, one of the dressers I had seen a few weeks ago (one that worked in terms of style, dimension…and certainly pricing), was still there. I bought for under $35 and **am now in the process of repainting/staining it.

One wouldn’t expect an interior like this one to be in a Madrid apartment in the neighborhood of Chamberí. But, here it is. In all it’s rustic charm: exposed beams and bricks teamed up with a white backdrop and dashed with colour.  Other worthy mentions reclaimed radiators and beautifully coloured glass in the kitchen.

But my favorite has got to be that adorably eclectic nursery.

I only recently learned that Lilly Pulitzer had passed away. It made me realize that other than the bright colours, I really knew nothing about the socialite turned designer. I have to say I was amused to find out that Mrs. Pulitzer had designed the vivid pattern shift dresses she was first known for, as a way to camouflage juice stains from the juice bar she owned and ran.

Eventually the dresses were more sought out than the juices, and Lilly Pulitzer as a designer evolved into something quite big.  The name is synonymous with bright floral prints. Prints that conjure thoughts of a warm day in Palm Beach (mint julep in hand of course).

Best of all, those prints had been extended from closet to home in recent years.

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a movie (ok, I can, it was the last 007 film a few months back). But seriously, every time I see a preview for The Great Gatsby, I get goosebumps.  The Art Deco visual candy promising to come out of this thing…ooh can’t wait.  Alas, the movie premiers at the end of this week, so I will have to wait.
