Every once in awhile, The Mr and I like to head out to nearby (and sometimes not- so nearby) historical homes. It’s a great way to see interiors and architecture of the past. You also get to hear some pretty interesting stories about the former occupants. This particular home was a Summer retreat for the Cooper-Hewitt family (as in, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum).
The Federal style building houses some great pieces of furniture from the Federal, Victorian and Edwardian eras. The home was given to the state of NJ exactly as the last of the Cooper-Hewitts had left it and it has been very well preserved. Alas, no pictures allowed inside. I’m also pretty sure the tour guide kept an extra eye on me after I got a little too excited about a table in one of the rooms (“This is an ACTUAL Duncan Phyfe piece?!”). I know, I’m a dork that way sometimes.
But, I did snap away on the grounds.

So pretty! I’ve always wanted to visit that house – did you know it’s supposed to be haunted? Also, if you want to see another Duncan Phyfe piece, check out The Merchant’s House Museum in NYC – it’s on East 4th, near the Bowery. http://www.merchantshouse.com/

How beautiful. Too bad you couldn’t get any sneaky spy shots of inside, I would’ve loved to see it. Will just have to put it on my list of places to visit. xxx
